It does get hard trying to stay current on all your PR contacts, but to help you out, here are some great tips to do that.
-Create a totally separate list of contacts for reporters and journalists. It doesn’t matter how many names you have, it should still be separate.
-Be really organized and separate your journalists into different groups. You can have a group of journalists that you feel really comfortable with and just call to talk. The other list would be people that you aren’t very familiar with yet.
-Make sure you have regular contact with the people that are on your list of media contacts.
-When someone moves offices or something else happens, don’t just erase them from your contacts. Do some digging to get a hold of them to see where they are at now. You can ask their old work place. If they are unable to help you out now, don’t discount them because they could be of help in the future.
-You should ask the people in your current contact list if there is anybody that they can recommend you to.
-If a reporter gets a hold of you, get their contact information immediately. Ask them what is the quickest way to reach them. Don’t bug them all the time.
-Before you take someone off your list, you need to give them a call to make sure it is what you want to do. See what other things people are involved in; it might be something in your area.
