There are a couple different segments of marketing. Tactical marketing is ad placement, getting leads, going to trade shows, and making brochures among others. Strategic marketing is what you articulate, how you articulate, who you are articulating to, and where it is going on.
There is quite a difference between the two. Tactical marketing deals with how you carry out your marketing ideas. Like, do you get leads, are you going to put ads out, and the marketing tools you might use. Strategic marketing deals with the subject matter of your message you send out through your marketing and how you convey it to the audience you choose. You need to understand your clients well and what they need as well as why they need it for marketing strategically.
This is why you need to look at something the way a customer would. You can just expect to plop an ad together and have immediate results. To get maximum sales you should know what your customer needs and want and then you can put a great marketing strategy together. The best way to sell a product is to have it solve an issue that your client has.
As as an advertiser you should be an expert on the behavior of your target market. Your marketing programs should be directed to those markets too and prompt them to purchase.
If you know your target market your strategy for marketing will become more detailed toward those clients. You will have a better return on investment.
