Frequent Fundraising Blunders

If you want to start fund raising or about to start, you should know it is no simple task. It is definitely doable, it just won’t be easy for you. If you want to have great achievement in fund raising avoid these blunders:

-Before you ask people for cash they need to be aware of your organization, what it does and if you are honest. What have you done in the past to make people want to do business with you? Let them know this.

-If you don’t do research on who your donors are you are making a big mistake. Even if this costs you some money you need to do it. Look at records and see who has given the largest gifts. Next you should research who has given to your organization most recently. Record these names down because they will probably give more to your cause.

You should develop a relationship with these people and learn more about them. Call them and find out what they think of your group, why they give you money and what you can do to improve. You will understand the people who donate a lot better than you did before and you will have great information from them that could be beneficial in attracting more donors.

-A monumental mistake to make is having wrong fund raising tactics. Don’t do something just because it worked for another group because it probably won’t work. If you really liked what another group did then you should ask yourself: what were the conditions that made their ideas work, are these conditions present in your group, could you feasibly use this strategy, and what does it cost?

It is much better to figure out what strategies have worked for you and grow from that. If you stay away from these mistakes you will develop great relationships with donors as well as raising a great amount of money.
