Sending out direct mail using an admail decreased postage alternative can still cost you a good amount of money; starting at 60 cents and up. This includes printing, mail production and postage. Undeliverable items will be recycles and your money is lost forever. If you don’t update your mailing database you will be throwing away money on undeliverable advertising. Spending time to go through your mailing list database to check information and updating your list often will save you money.
How Can you Clean up your Addresses?
Even if you have a huge list take a bit of time to: Sort people by their city while looking for misspellings, sort by county or state and have the correct abbreviations for them, and sort your data by postal code. If you clean up your data a higher amount of your mailings will be delivered to the correct people in a short amount of time.
Update your Address Data
If a customer moves away and hasn’t made you aware of it you can update your list by: Calling them to verify their address, and have your data compared with a database of all registered moves (this costs money). If you use the return to sender service you will receive all undeliverable mail back; this does cost you money but at least you know you can erase them from your list. There is a service for address correction which will give you the new address when the postage is sent back; this also costs some money for every one. Try the undeliverable mail system first because it costs less.
There is always the option to outsource a company to help you do this which will be a little more expensive but will probably end up saving you money in the end.
